The idea is simple:

Take one AiR flag and send it around the world. Along the way take pictures to show us the world the flag travels in. Each person signs it with their ETS or TS handle. There is even space to transfer personal artwork. We would also like to follow NIN concert tours as much as possible. It's already been in the Birmingham video! (picture)

There are some changes to the process because of the PERFORMANCE 2008 TOUR
See this post for information requirements

How it normally works:

1. Email us with at least your city, state, zip, country and ETS/TS handle.
2. We will confirm you on the waiting list and add you to the Google Map.
3. Prior to the flag being shipped to you, we will send another confirmation email to ensure you are still at the same residence, get a complete mailing address if necessary, and a phone number.
4. The current flag bearer will be given the next address and will pay for shipping. Personal hand offs are encouraged (and will be quite easy if you live in close proximity or are going to the same concert).
5. When you have the flag, take pictures and/or video. Email them back to us along with descriptions, dates, and locations. (If you know about geotagging, then please help out because we geotag as many of the photos as possible.) Provide us with whatever dialog you want in your blog entry. Be as creative as you wish.
6. Your photos, videos, and dialog get posted. Additionally, we incorporate it all into a Google Earth Flag tour.
7. Normally, we'd expect the flag to be ready in about two weeks for the cycle to start over with a new handoff.

…And so it lands.
Its trip is lengthy due to postal strikes, screwing up my timetable.
To future bearers of the flag, make sure you plan out your main ports of call and make sure your team is highly trained, available, and willing.

Restructuring of the cloth

The flag arrives somewhat haphazardly created from a large sheet, folded and tied in place making the first session with the flag somewhat messy.
01. Esplanade Flag

The decision was made to give it some shape and unattached the patches to re-stitch them, as they were pinching the fabric. However there are no gifted seamstress's.

There's something cursed about the flag being in this town... or it's
just the impression I leave on by passers while doing stunts with the
flag! After all, I'm alone in this since people don't participate
because they're at work, or tired from work, or don't want to be in a
part of some internet movement... lame!

Anyway, I've been given quite a few weird/angry looks while trying to
pull some of the stunts. I even swallowed the tough questions of, "Why the
hell do I need to do this?" or "Shouldn't you get a job?" (which is
funny; I lost one not long ago - not my fault). But then when I got home
and the images just wouldn't open (which is weird, previous images are
there) - that really blew my hat off.

So later, my wife and I went out to shoot a few images until
the camera battery died on us... I told you this city and the flag were not
compatible!

Dianne @ Postojna

I wish I could do more with all the time that I had, but somehow life (also weather) got in the way, so these 7 photos are all I can contribute. It was very cool to be a part of this and I hope the flag will one day come to Slovenia again, so we can all show it an even better time.
I'll just get on with my descriptions.

1 Taking a bath
1 Taking a bath
The flag was very dirty when I got it, it has obviously been through a lot before arriving to Slovenia, but even after scrubbing it, some of the filth just wouldn't come off so it's all a part of the flag now. Which is good, because it gives it character. At least it ended up smelling nice! After being washed it sat in the corner for quite a while as me and my sister could not find time to take it out. When we finally did make time, a problem arose: where to take it? Postojna is a small town with a population of a few thousand. Not much interesting architecture around (at least not in the direct vicinity of the city), not a very urban place and not very rural either. We just had to make do with what was around.

2 Downtown Postojna
2 Downtown Postojna
First, we took it to the very centre of the town where an abandoned hotel set for demolition has been amusing tourists and locals alike with its proclamation for love of Spice Girls. It was actually done by the local graffiti artist possibly with the intent of pissing off local cops that had been trying to stop the recent flood of graffiti. It worked.

3 Postojna Cave
3 Cave
Then we went to the Postojna Cave, which is our town's biggest attraction. It's a system of caves spreading 21 km (13 miles) underground - at least the parts open to tourists. The photo was taken at the exit. It's not the photo I wanted to take but there were just too many tourists crowding around to do it the way I had planned. Anyway, the cave is the most awesome and magical thing ever and if you ever decide to visit Slovenia, you HAVE to see it. It has a little train and everything!

The rest of the photos were taken by the river in the park near the cave.

4 Animals
4 Animals
The flag and me, posing in front of some moss animals. They were kinda scary. I don't know why it seemed like a good idea to put farm animals on a river. Or why I felt the urge to snap a photo of them. But here they are.

5 River Pivka
5 River Pivka
Me and my sister holding the flag above river Pivka just as it is about to enter the cave (and come out somewhere completely different). It's basically the river that made the cave (and a lot of other interesting things on the way). It's not usually that dirty, by the way, it's just that there has been a lot of rain and whatnot.

6 Resting
6 Resting
After all that photo-taking the flag rested for a minute in our lovely park.

Ishtmail @ UK and Slovenia

The trip around UK was incredible, and to think that we were lucky enough to have probably the best UK NIN show of this tour exactly when we were tripping around makes my skin crawl.

Right, YKWYA and I got together with a bunch of other ETS members on aug. 29th, the day before the show, in Wolverhampton. The next day was gig day, and we camped outside the Civic Hall from 9:30 in the morning (some people even came at 3 in the morning, the crazy bastards).
The show was intense, mindblowing... And to top everything, Caramell (my girl) got 2 picks from Jeordie (one of which was the last pick he used on the show, on Hurt!), and YKWYA's brother got another pick himself...
After the show we each went our own ways, but before that, an official flag handover was done.

The flag (and me and my girlfriend along with it) then travelled back to Birmingham, where we took this photo:

If you followed the nin.com homepage, you've seen the 'Birmingham beach' photo that they had up on August 29th... This photo of the flag was taken at that same beach.

nin.com photo inserted

We then went on a late night bus to Scotland... Forgot to take any photos in Edinburgh, but we remembered at the infamous lake of Loch Ness.

The lake is beautiful, and although we didn't see the monster, we sure had a monstrous time. But only for a day...

Next stop was the hauntingly beautiful Isle of Skye, where we stayed at a hostel, owned by Lord MacDonald, the chief of the clan Donald... Lovely old chap, very nice and friendly. Isle of Skye has all the beauties of Scotland thrown into a small package... I'd love to retire there one day...

But all good things come to an end... A hop on a bus to Glasgow (where, again, we forgot to take photos of the flag!), and then a plane to London and Ljubljana.
Yesterday, we went round Ljubljana and took these photos:

This is our capital city's main park... The promenade seen here is now an openair photo gallery.

Underpasses in Ljubljana are full of grafitti art... Resist!

This is our nation's greatest poet, Dr. France Preseren. A pedophile and a drunk...

The 3 bridges of architect Joze Plecnik... This is the centre of ljubljana's life.

Ljubljanica is the river running through Ljubljana, and quite lovely this time of year.

The Dragon Bridge. Dragon is Ljubljana's symbol.

YKWYA @ Birmhingham & Wolverhampton

We received the latest batch of photos from YKWYA. He went to the concerts at Birmingham and Wolverhampton.

Here's what he sent:

Hey guys I'm BACK! Holy Shit what a great two shows. The only problem was that the security at both shows wouldn't let us hang the flag out. Birmingham let us for the first few minutes then we had to taken it down! Wolverhampton wouldn't let us hang it out at all!!! thanks to Lorena and the other girls (one girl I think was Irish but I didn't catch her name, although we met again at the front in Wolverhampton) for helping me out! and to Reznik and honey_dorian in Birmingham.

Wow! I'm excited. Great to meet Ishtmail and Caramell (two awesome people) I was sad to see them go!

BUT! You can just make the flag out on this video from NIN Official from Birmigham! Its just in front of Aarron. Awesome!

Screen capture:

Sorry for all the exclamation marks guys but wow - I am still excited. The shows were awesome and it was great to meet everyone form ETS in person.

My brother and I were just to the left of the girl with red hair in Wolverhampton so if we had of been able to hang the flag out it would have been an awesome picture from nin.com

Hotel is Resistance: the flag took a beating down the front in Birmingham, trodden on, got wet, so we had to leave it drying in the room while we went to Wolverhampton for the day.

Art Gallery: this was a cool exhibition

Caramell, Ishtmail, Reznik, Me and honey_dorian. And ishtmail keeping 'tambourine resistance' alive!

Some picks we caught from Jeordie! My brother almost got a tambourine! Damn.
